"From The Heart" is a collection of poems written over the years, with short stories included that inspired the writing of each one. My first poem, written when I was nine years old, was right after the death of my mother.
As with all my poetry, when I couldn't get words out of my head, I had to sit down and write about my feelings, my thoughts, my sorrows, and my happiness.
Unable to talk to anyone about my feelings, I expressed my dreams, my hopes for a better life in my writing. Things never shared with anyone before are exposed here.
As many of my hidden feelings come to light—some good, some heartbreaking—or at least they were heartbreaking to me at the time—I hope you enjoy taking a walk back in time with me.

Native American and European cultures share a method of story telling that is not readily apparent to the casual modern person. Just telling a story, 'just the facts maam', is what we've grown used to because of the hectic pace of life we drive today. It's delightful and relaxing to the mind to receive information in the way Sue delivers it here, a biography interspersed with the poetry she wrote for those occasions. Our ancestors typically did this with songs.This is the way humans should share stories. Though the overall tale is one of abuse, abandonment, addiction and moving beyond those issues I was not overly weighed down after completing it. Excellent work.

This book of poetry was amazing! It answered more questions than the book did. Sue shines her light on the hardships she endured growing up. She is an amazingly strong and loving enduring woman. Her books and insights I think, have made me a better person than I was before. If you haven't read her books before, they are very well worth it!!!!! Thanks for listening to my input.

Sue has skillfully brought together the trauma and emotional upheaval of her early childhood into this collection of poems that will draw the audience into each story.
The narrator tells each story with a calm and steady voice, yet with a strength that reflects a desire to survive, as each poem and story brings to light.
Sue has opened her heart to her readers with these poems, sharing her life of surviving child abuse, neglect and fear.
I have other books by Sue Julsen and love her writing. This short story is a story of her life.
